8. Heat
It was unnaturally warm in Lima that day. It seemed that the sun was fully intent on turning every single person who dared to leave their house into a miserable pile of goo. Windows were open as far as they could be, fans on at their highest settings and kids sitting in front of an open freezer despite their parents warnings.
It also meant that Hummel and Lube were getting a lot of overheated cars, thanks to many people in Lima never bothering to check their temperatue gauge.
For Finn, that was normally a good thing. More customers meant that he got more work which led to more pay. And, seeing how he actually found his job enjoyable, he didn’t complain about it like he would have with Puck at Sheets ‘N’ Things. There was just one problem.
Kurt was also working there.
With so many cars to work on and in such little time, it had been decided that Kurt would be needed to get the workload done. Now, Finn has no problem with Kurt, absolutely not.
Seeing him half wearing the work jumpsuit, his white tank top filthy from who knows what and sweat dripping down his skin from the heat, was quite an issue.
A serious issue.
Finn gulped, attempting to go back to work. What did Derek say was wrong with this car again? Something about the oil…
“Finn?” he asked, and Finn wildly span on the spot as he turned around. Kurt, unamused, glared at Finn, not enjoying the attention he was getting from everybody. He works here too, dammit, and it’s not as if he’s enjoying being covered in dirt and muck and whatever the hell had been on the previous car he worked on. “Something wrong?”
Finn just stuttered. Honestly, he didn’t understand just what he was going through right now. Just that seeing Kurt all messed up was really doing things for him and—-mailman mailman mailman…
“I-I gotta go! Bathroom!” he blurted out, running to men’s room a few paces away, slamming the door shut as soon as he entered. Finn sighed. This was really messed up. Just what was going on in his head?
“You know, I’d believe you were actually using the toilet if you were to lock the door, Finn.” Finn’s head snapped right to the door, where Kurt was now using said lock. “Now,” Kurt continued, facing Finn down, “just what is it about me being here that seems to be offending you so much right now?”
Finn rolled his eyes, refusing to look at Kurt at all. Of course Kurt would see it that Finn had a problem with him being gay. How many times was he going to have to make it obvious that his sexuality wasn’t the crisis here. Well, sexuality was at the centre of the problem but it wasn’t Kurt’s that was being taken into consideration but Finn’s and—
“You’re getting lost in your own head again, sweetie. Mind telling me what’s got you so worked up at the least?” Finn looks down to Kurt again, eyes aware, but still remaining silent. Tempted to roll his own eyes, Kurt simply turned to the sink, turning the tap. Might as well get himself a little bit cleaner before going out again.
“Don’t,” Finn reacts, grabbing a hold of Kurt’s hand just before he gets it under the water. Kurt stares back at him, baffled. “It’s just… you look really hot like that, okay?” Kurt’s eyes are wide, trying to process just what is happening.
“Finn, was that a bad pun on our weather or…” he breaks away as the taller boy shuffles closer, closer, and closer still. They shouldn’t do this — do what? — he briefly thinks, remembering that he and Blaine are ‘on a break’ while Blaine’s at Chicago and Finn’s still trying to get back together with Rachel, that those relationships could still work, that there’s something there and, and…!
Finn places one hand on the back of Kurt’s head, his dark, so different from what they’re normally like. “I’m going to kiss you.” There’s no room for arguement, and Kurt just dumbly nods before Finn dips down and kisses him.
It takes them both a moment before their lips start to move, hands beginning to grip onto each other tightly as tongue’s begin to touch. It’s different, for the both of them — Finn used to dealing with people much shorter and Kurt more used for Blaine’s gentler kisses — but it’s a good different, something which makes something in their stomachs burn and a growing sense of anticipation and—
“Hey, what’s taking so long?! I need to go, man!”
The two break apart, Finn hastily unlocking the door and Kurt trying, in vain, to look presentable. They slide out, their co-worker too concerned about his bladder to pay them much heed. They looked at each other in undersatnding, before returning to their work.
There was going to be a long talk about this when they got home.

Oh, that was worth the wait! Your word choice made this really vivid; so them, and adorable, but also as awkward as the situation probably cwould be if it were to happen!
